Uncovering a Hidden Gem

I love unexpected design elements. And this new hidden door might be one of my favorite new features from #casacancado.

We finished converting an odd part of our attic at #casacancado into a hang-out spot for the kids. Besides having unusual angled walls and a unique layout, another funky element of this project is how you access this new space.

I call the entry point to the new space the hole in the wall. Before the renovation, a standard-size interior door would open to a cubby. This little spot worked as a storage closet for many years. We eliminated the full-size door, and now the “hole in the wall” is covered by one oversize artwork. If you don’t know this artwork unlocks a hidden gem, you would never think to look behind it.

Finding the entrance to this room is the first step in this design journey. Once you uncover this door, you can rock climb or pull yourself up to get to the room. And once you make it up there, you will find built-in sofas begging you to sit down and watch the sunset through two large skylights.

I will be sharing more about this room very soon. You can read all about the built-in sofa here. And for more about #casacancado, visit here.
