Recycling an Old Jeans – A DIY Jeans Pillow

May 17, 2018

The minimalist in me has decided to come out in full force ready to clear every single unused item from the house. Closet after closet, there I am, with one donation bag and one trash bag. The feeling afterward is amazing, but the initial task can be a daunting one. Even though the idea of actually finding your belongings seems like the obvious choice, sometimes we just accumulate too much and get lost in the messy chaos, right?

After my last wardrobe clean-up, this very old jean shorts laid on the ground awaiting sadly for its fate. But then, I remembered that I needed fabric to make a new pillow for my son’s room. So, I decided to recycle those old jeans and turn them into a throw pillow.

First, I cut the seams of the jeans and then I pinned the parts back together in a way that I thought the overall design would look good. Since I was going to use this pillow in my nine-year-old son’s room, I thought it would be funny to keep the back pockets in place. After assembling the pieces together, I basically had two square pieces of fabric to sew together. I chose to not have a zipper, so once the pillow insert was in place, I handsewn the last side of the pillow.

I loved the final result. This little jeans pillow is kind of funky and just what I needed to spruce up the bed. I really love the mixed textures, patterns and colors of all fabrics together. So, there you go, the next time you decide it’s time to get rid of your jeans, try a little recycling.
