Today, I'm thrilled to share the journey of transforming the petite powder room at the beach house. Our canvas? A dated room with weathered walls and tired fixtures begging for a makeover. I knew that here, every element, from the choice of materials to the placement of accents, needed to be thoughtfully considered to weave a narrative of moody elegance in this small space that could resonate with the house's aesthetics.

First up, let's talk walls. I decided to embrace the charm of shiplap to bring texture and depth to the space. The crisp lines of the shiplap effortlessly complement the room's proportions, adding a touch of rustic warmth to the overall aesthetic. Embracing the dark side, we opted for a daring color scheme. The deep, enveloping hue from Iron Ore, a gorgeous color from Sherman Williams set the stage for this somewhat dramatic welcome.
Design tip. When painting a room a dark color, take that bold hue to the ceiling. Painting the ceiling the same dark color as the walls creates a seamless visual flow, eliminating harsh lines and creating a sense of continuity.

I designed a custom oak paneled floating vanity for this room. I love how the rich tones of oak infuse the room with warmth while contrasting the dark walls' tone. Nestled atop the vanity, I opted for a black round vessel sink that rests on a soapstone countertop. The vanity creates a focal point that demands attention when you walk into this space.

I curated a selection of carefully chosen accents and accessories to tie it all together. Matte black fixtures lend a touch of industrial edge, while the soft ambient lighting of the wall sconce adds a gentle glow to the space. The selection of an asymmetrical wall mirror, plaster artwork, and greenery transforms this once-ordinary space into a beautiful powder room.
