Boy Bedroom Makeover
Out with the baby blue, in with all the Scandinavian feels. Today I am happy to take you inside #clientnephew room to show you this boy bedroom makeover. This bedroom needed a big update. This room needed to be bright and it needed lots of storage space. But most of all, it also needed to “belong”, if you will, to my nephew’s current age. So we basically removed everything from the room and started fresh! With a new blank canvas, it was time to play.
My first change was the color of the walls. We painted the room with Silver Dust from Behr to match the rest of the house. If you have seen some of my rooms before, you already know that I love a good white wall. And the Silver Dust paint color is my go-to choice. Always. As soon as the walls got a new fresh coat of paint, we already felt like this room was going to look great. With that big window and the new bright walls, the room started to feel bright and welcoming.
The second big change we quickly tackled was the furniture. We removed a bulky bunk bed and made room for a simple-looking full bed with storage underneath it. Keeping the clean lines in this room helped keep the design timeless. In a couple of years when we need to make changes, a few artwork tweaks and new bedding will do the trick.
Another big furniture we brought into this room was the large 6 drawers white dresser. To make it all functional, we made a desk with a beautiful live edge wood we found in the lumber yard. You can see the tutorial for this DIY desk here. We added raw steel sturdy shelves in an open and airy grid design to create extra storage and a focal point. Bringing in the steel texture into this room while mixing it with wood tones and white helped make the space look bolder.
For the artwork and accessories, we used a lot of my work, like the oversized map mural behind the bed, the hollow triangles wall decal, and the art prints, as well as a lot of his personal items like the snowboard, ukelele, and drums sticks.
