Office Makeover – Room Tour
Happy 2017! I am so excited about new beginnings and many new projects that I hope this year will bring us. Last year we worked on some great projects, like the room for seven, the rustic chandelier, and one of my favorites, my office makeover.
We started the office remodel sometime in the summer. We wanted to make the room brighter, more feminine, more welcoming, and more Trendy. Get it? Prior to the makeover, the space did what it was supposed to do but didn’t feel very inspiring. It had a great working area for three computers and lots of storage space. With two big windows, the lighting was pretty good, but the dark-colored walls felt a little sad. I also wanted to transform this office into a shared space, creating room for a play area for the kiddos.
So for this office makeover to work, we focused on the following items:
Light colored walls
For me, there is nothing better than a room with white walls. Does that sound kind of boring? Maybe. But that is definitely my style. I like the walls to be a blank canvas for the furniture and all the décor pieces. But don’t be so uninterested… After all, I do have a black chalk wall in my kitchen. Now, that’s badass, right?
Paint the cabinets
The cabinets were so dreary. They made the room look like an outdated law office space. The dark-colored wood and the gray countertop looked mismatched. So I decided to paint the upper cabinets white and paint the bottom ones gray while trying to match the gray-colored countertops. I knew that replacing the countertops would be too costly, so matching the color was a better option. And when the cabinets were all painted the color was perfectly matched.
Colorful artwork, pillows, and decorative items
Once the bones of our projects are all done, then the fun part of adding bits of color here and there starts. I chose lots of gold pops throughout the room and bright pinks, greens, and oranges for pillow and artwork.
Bold light fixture
The modern chandelier is the statement piece in this office makeover. We love the look of it just as much as we love how the color ties in so well with the gray cabinets.
Share the space
The cabinets hide all those very colorful toys that every super picky and “designphobia” mom like myself dislikes. The couch creates a seating area for the TV.
I love how this space turned out. And I absolutely love working in here!
