Living Room Ideas

Last year I helped my sister design her family/living room. Before the renovations took place, this large room was divided by one wall that made the room feel very disconnected. The wall also blocked a lot of the good natural light. So the first thing we needed to do to make this space work for this family was to remove the wall. After a couple of plans, it was decided that we could take the wall down but we would need to keep a supporting pillar in place. Now a pillar pretty much smack in the middle of the room doesn’t sound like a very promising feature, right?

Since, the pillar had to stay, the solution was to turn it into an architectural feature rather than a visual nuisance. So we added concrete into the equation and made it thick enough to achieve a good balance. And the result was way better than I ever imagine. I like it so much that from that day forward I want every room in my house to have a little bit of concrete in it. From a concrete planter, to a concrete décor piece or who knows, my entire the master bathroom!

Once the space was ready for furniture and accessories we now had to decide how the room was going to be used. In my original design, the plan was to have a round table next to the bar. We then switch that layout to two lounge chairs plus a bench that would face the game table. And finally, we ended up with four chairs facing each other to create a more casual but intimate space.

The mixtures of concrete, leather, wood, and metal makes this space look chic and timeless. I really like all the different metals used in this room. From the brass detail in the chandelier to the dark colored metal from the shuffleboard legs, and the different silver accents. It all blends creating a beautiful and uniform space for this family that I love.

This room feels amazing and it’s a great continuation of #clientkoko home. If you want to see more rooms from this house, head on over here.
