Kitchen Reno Phase 1 – Bring in the Dust Pan

February 26, 2019

Today I wanted to share a little bit of our progress on the kitchen reno at #flipmagnolia. Since we are running all new electrical wires in this kitchen, changing all the plumbing, and checking a termite issue, we had to gut the entire space. Unfortunately, we really didn’t have another option. Instead of patching these walls up, gutting it and then putting drywall everywhere will actually go faster. So last Saturday we had the best crew come over to #flipmagnolia to start the demo process. And boy, these guys did great. Let’s just say things escalated pretty quickly. But in a good way.

These days, our Saturdays are filled with basketball games and a few gymnastics meets. So as soon as the day starts we are on the go. So, while I was bouncing from one game to the next, Alex and Nic started the demo process. When I left, the place looked like the photo above. But when I came back three hours later to check on progress, it was a complete war zone. It was incredibly dusty, covered in debris and old 2x4s. It’s funny how something that didn’t look good can get so much worse, right? I feel like we are in the phase of this renovation that no matter what we do, things just get worse.

Once Alex and Nic cleared all the mess from the demo process, we were able to install the two new windows. The current windows did not make this space functional. They were too long, minimizing countertop space. Now, with the shorter windows, we will run a countertop from one side of the kitchen to the other.

This week, the electrician is coming to finish electrical. Following the electrical work is plumbing and then drywall. I have never looked forward to seeing drywall in my life as much as I do now. Be sure to follow our stories to see videos and more about this #flipmagnolia.
