How-to-hang Art
Hanging artwork can be tricky. If you ever found yourself marveling about the perfect height to hang your artwork, you are not alone.
When installing art on your walls, you want to have the center of your piece at about 57 to 60 inches from the ground. This basic and helpful design rule will eliminate the guessing game for any art installation.
The key is to hang artwork at eye level. So before you start puncturing your walls, remember the 60 inches rule. Keep in mind that depending on the size of your art or wall height, this mid-point measurement may need to be adjusted accordingly. You can lower or place it a few inches higher, but the general rule of thumb is 60 inches.

Now when hanging art above a piece of furniture such as a credenza or sofa, the best guidance is to have the bottom of the frame at 6 to 8 inches from the furniture. The composition will feel balanced when placing the art close to the furniture. As if both furniture and art were part of one visual identity.
As with any rule, some exceptions may apply. Depending on the scale of your artwork or wall height, you might have to step back to see if you need to break this rule. But for most cases, the 60 or 8 inches rules are the best guides for any art installation.
