Party Décor + My First Fondant Cake
Last weekend we happily celebrated Bela’s birthday. This NINE-year-old wanted to celebrate her birthday in 80’s style, as you can see it here. To celebrate her birthday, I baked my first fondant cake. With a little help from our friend Yolanda from howtocakeit, Raquel, my Mom and I tackled this challenge and ended up with a two-layered cake covered with white fondant and adorned with colorful candles. It sure takes a sweet time to bake and decorate a cake, but it is much easier than I thought. I think it turned out pretty ok, right? And if you stop tilting your head, you will realize that those candles are in fact not crooked at all.
So, it is safe to say that I foresee many more fondant cakes in the future. Oh, and the best part to me was to hear the kids saying “wow” as they found out the inside of the cake was a bright rainbow layered cake! The simple décor, including the candles, the candle stand, and honeycomb tissue balls are all ala #targetstyle.
