On our Summer trip to the Azores, we were immersed in the raw, untamed beauty of São Miguel, the largest island in this magical archipelago. Our stay at Santa Bárbara Eco-Beach Resort was nothing short of unforgettable—an experience that not only allowed us to explore this remote paradise but also filled me with fresh inspiration for my design projects.

Santa Bárbara Eco-Beach Resort is more than just a hotel—it’s a perfect reflection of the island’s volcanic landscape and serene environment. The resort’s minimalist design, combined with sustainable architecture, struck a chord with me, inspiring ideas for my own projects back home. The integration of natural elements, from the black volcanic stone to the use of reclaimed wood, created a space that was both eco-conscious and visually stunning.

The island itself offers endless inspiration. From the striking black sand beaches just steps from our room to the dramatic coastline and lush green hills, everything felt raw and beautifully authentic. With surfboards readily available, the boys braved the chilled waters to catch waves in the mornings.

The super cool beach club at the resort became our go-to spot after a morning of surfing. The açai bowls were fresh and delicious, and the simple, earthy design of the club resonated with my passion for creating spaces that feel grounded and connected to their surroundings. Every detail of the resort, from the textures to the color palette, seemed thoughtfully chosen, a theme I’m excited to bring into future projects.

Exploring the island was just as inspiring. The nearby hiking trails, hidden waterfalls, and charming villages offered countless moments of discovery. Nature here feels untouched and genuine, and the culinary experiences at Santa Bárbara were truly amazing. The restaurant served some of the best fish we’ve ever had, caught fresh and prepared with local ingredients.

I’m brought back so much more than memories. The island’s beauty, the resort’s incredible design elements, and the balance between adventure and serenity have all sparked new ideas. Travel always inspires me, and this trip has filled me with fresh creativity to infuse into my design work.
