Getting the Cement Wall Look
When you walk into #flipmagnolia, a foyer welcomes you just before you face the living room on the right. The foyer is beautiful, and the window seating area plus the staircase create a great visual impact. The living room, on the other hand, had a huge eyesore. With a closed chimney and new HVAC ductwork, the non-working fireplace was neither functional nor pretty. So we came up with a creative plan to bring a design element that would elevate this space. And for that, we turned to Portola Paints to create a faux cement wall.
We used Roman Clay from Portola Paints to achieve the faux cement wall look. Roman Clay is a plaster finish ideal for a contemporary look. The plaster looks like a paste or thick paint. Using a putty knife, we applied three coats on the wall so we could achieve a soft textured look. Because we applied so many coats, the application process was time-consuming but not hard at all.
Roman Clay comes in many different color choices. The color we chose to use is called mineral. Once we applied it to the wall, there was an immediate panic in the air. Surprisingly, the first coat looked way darker than we expected. But once the product dried, the color changed and it looked just like we had envisioned.
