A Dreamy Room For a Dreamy Client
Today I invite you to step inside this newly refreshed bedroom. This space was designed for a book reader, poem writer, and very artsy client. Knowing the charming characteristics of this soon-to-be 13-year-old girl was fundamental when making the many design decisions.
The first item I chose for this room was the Riley platform bed. I was smitten with its clean curvy lines. Clad in a soft blue tone, this beautiful piece was such an important ingredient for this bedroom’s recipe.
The design process that followed was shaped by this singular item. To contrast the soft pastel color from the bed, I decided to add some friction to the composition by adding two bold nightstands in black. The round sconces in gold soften the hard edges of the nightstand and further delineate the symmetry of the space. While two off-centered small square paintings add an unexpected element to break away that uniformity.

We painted one of the walls in chalk paint to give this artsy girl an opportunity to embrace her creativity whenever her heart desires it.
A pretty patterned area rug helps in anchoring this spacious bedroom. The tassel duvet cover in white makes the perfect backdrop for an off-white striped throw. And two ottomans in a black and white grid pattern at the foot of the bed complete the look. Mixing different patterns and textures in any room is a great way to bring visual interest to your scene.

Another great design element here is the beautiful rattan hanging chair. This charming piece offers the perfect cozy spot for reading a book by the window.

For this avid book reader, installing a floating shelf to showcase her mystical book collection was a must. Highlighting someone’s collection is a great way to tell a story about who lives in that space. And when you incorporate everyday elements into a design, you can instantly bring character into the space. Above the thick wood shelf, two large pieces of artwork in different wood-colored frames create a focal point.
