The Art of Trying Something New

Creating this new artwork collection gave me the opportunity to explore a material I had been curious about for some time: yarn. I was drawn to its softness, movement, and ability to add dimension in a completely different way. Paired with canvas, it allowed me to create pieces that feel sculptural while still reflecting the simple forms that have always been part of my work.

Introducing yarn into my creative process was exciting, but it was also more challenging than I expected. There was a lot of experimenting, adjusting, starting over, and learning how the material wanted to move. Some ideas worked beautifully, while others led me in an entirely different direction. The process required patience and a willingness to let go of the outcome I originally imagined. Taking a chance on something unfamiliar pushed me creatively, and I am so happy I stayed with it.

The collection includes 10 original pieces in three sizes: 25" x 25", 13" x 49", and 25" x 49". Each piece combines canvas, yarn, layered texture, and dimensional forms to create movement and depth. The muted colorways range from warm, earthy tones to deep, moody shades, and I love how the limited palettes allow the materials and textures to take center stage.

Seeing the finished pieces together feels especially rewarding because I know how much experimenting went into finding this new direction. This collection reminded me that creativity often begins with taking a chance, even when you are not completely sure where it will lead. I am so happy I introduced yarn into my work, and I am excited to finally share these pieces with you.
