How to Dress Up a Headboard
We’ve completed the project of the year a couple of weeks ago. And by that, I mean our first house flip. Now that we have more time in our hands, we are busy tackling a couple of projects around #casacancado. These projects varied from replacing door hardware or old and outdated ceiling fans. Which, to my view made a huge difference, but nothing too exciting like a complete house flip. However, during these past few weeks, we also gave one room at #casacancado a complete refresh.
This room got a new bed, nightstands, and sconces. One of the cool DIY projects we did for this space was the headboard hack. After assembling this pretty mid-century-looking bed, we decided we wanted to dress up the headboard. So, instead of having a large and expensive custom made cushion for this headboard, we bought two lumbar pillows and attached them to the headboard. It was a super easy project and I like how it gives this bed a very unique look.
We added two beautiful white nightstands with a golden leg detail on each side of the bed. And the black and gold sconces help make this space look super elegant. The adorable leather pillow on the bed is actually part of the Article couch we have in the office. I decided to use one of the round pillows that came with the couch in this room and the other one in my bedroom. I don’t miss them on the couch and I think they were a great and simple addition to both spaces. On the bed, the super soft cotton jersey duvet cover is dressed up by a textured oversized Throw from Opalhouse.
The other side of the room got new photos for the frames and a couple of IKEA décor items, like the black circle frames, the handskalad, and table lamp. There were quite a few changes in this room, but the process was easy and fast, thus very rewarding. Next up could be you. Check out our design services here.

SO great!!! Are the lumbar pillows somehow attached in the middle or just attached to the headboard? Also, what did you use as your attachment? Thank you.
Hi Nancy. The pillows are attached to the headboard first and then I also attached them to each other so they would stay centered in the middle. I used a leather sewing waxed thread not only because it’s pretty strong but also because it was what I had at home.
